Just another kid from Akron
who found a way.

I'm Melo Haynes III. Basketball player, barber, trader, father, business owner. The Smart Money framework didn't come from a classroom. It came from 8 to 9 years of pain, losses, and figuring out what the institutions already knew.

Chapter One

It started on a court in Akron.

I grew up dreaming of playing pro basketball at the highest level. I worked on my craft every day. No shortcuts. No plan B. The work paid off. Full ride scholarship, college ball, the path everyone said was the path.

Then I started feeling it. GOD had something else in store for me. Basketball wasn't the destination. It was the teacher. The discipline of repetition, the patience of a long game, the willingness to lose your way to learning. It all transferred. I just didn't know to what yet.

“Basketball took me places I'd never have gone. But the skill it really taught me wasn't the game itself. It was how to keep showing up.”

Chapter Two

I cuthair. I sat forcameras. I clocked into9 to 5s when the chips were low. I never stopped moving.

For close to 9 years I bounced between identities. Cutting hair to keep the lights on. Sitting for cameras because someone said I had the look. Some seasons I clocked in to a 9 to 5. Some seasons I worked for myself. I was always moving and always finding the next thing to chase.

Friday hit. Monday came faster. The check landed. The check left. I worked hard, I showed up, I tried every angle I could think of, and I still couldn't make a real move. I knew there had to be more. I just didn't know what more looked like yet.

What I learned in those years didn't feel like progress while I was living it. The discipline of being on time. The patience of the chair. The eye that modeling sharpened. The hustle that running side gigs builds in you. None of it was wasted. It was preparing me to recognize the difference between working for money and learning how to make money work for me.

“The work I was doing wasn't going to make me. It was going to keep me.”

Chapter Three

Then I made twenty eight dollars without clocking in.

That was the moment everything cracked open. Twenty eight dollars isn't a lot of money. But that money came in while I sat at a desk doing nothing my body recognized as work. No customer. No clock. No boss telling me what was next.

What hit me wasn't the dollars. It was the realization that the chart in front of me was the first thing I'd ever touched that paid me without trading my time for it. Every other check I'd ever earned came from giving hours of my life away. This one didn't.

I went deep after that. Years of getting humbled by the chart. Years of blowing accounts because I was still trading like retail in a market run by institutions. Until I learned to read what was actually happening underneath the candles. Order blocks. Liquidity sweeps. Fair value gaps. The framework was always there. I just hadn't been shown it.

“The framework was always there. I just hadn't been shown it.”

Chapter Four

The work started compounding.

Year by year. Dollar by dollar. Scroll the chart.

Account
$28
Year one. First trade.
$28
Twenty eight dollars. The first money I ever made that didn't come from giving hours of my life away.
Year one and a half. First grand.
$1,000
First $1K day. Still cutting hair on weekends. The check from the chair and the check from the chart hit the same week.
Months later. Five.
$5,000
Five thousand in a session. Started believing what I was reading underneath the candles. Order blocks. Liquidity. The framework was working.
Biggest single day.
$50,000
Fifty thousand plus in one session. The day the chart paid more than a year of any job I'd ever clocked into.
Year two. The account.
$100,000+
Crossed $100,000 in the trading account. No employer. No title. Just me, the chart, and the framework I was finally fluent in.
I walked away.
2019
I walked away from the 9 to 5 in 2019. Haven't clocked in for anyone since. The work had finally started compounding.
2019

“That was the year the work started compounding.”

Chapter Five
Charlotte · 2026

To you, reading this.

I'm in Charlotte now. The chair I sit in. The chart I read. The home I built. The kids I get to come home to. The wife who watched me lose money I didn't have. None of this is small to me.

I lost more than I want to type. For close to 9 years I tried every angle a check could come from. I blew accounts. I chased strategies that worked once and never worked again. I got humbled the way every honest trader gets humbled. The work didn't compound until I stopped working for money and learned how to make money work for me.

Nobody taught me how to trade. A friend put it on my radar, told me this skill existed, that I should look at it. From there it was just me. Years of reps. Years of getting humbled. Thousands of hours in front of a chart trying to figure out what I was missing. The framework you read about in my playbook didn't come from a course. I built it from the bottom up by losing my way to the top.

That's why I do mentorship now. So somebody walking into this craft doesn't have to spend the 9 years I spent figuring it out alone. The people I work with have eliminated debt, bought homes, walked away from jobs that drained them, funded their own businesses. That's the version of this skill I'm trying to hand you. The slow, disciplined version that pays for itself for the rest of your life if you put the reps in.

My mission, plainly. Educate and mentor a thousand traders into a real, full-time income from this craft. Not the get-rich-quick version. The kind that compounds. The kind you pass down. Generational money. Generational discipline.

If you're sitting in front of those same charts confused, losing checks you can't afford to lose, blaming yourself for not seeing what the institutions see. I see you. I was you. The framework is real. The path is real. So is the work it takes to walk it.
